Isaiah 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
It seems that yesterday God called for the comfort of His people. We had two guest speakers and both of them spoke quite spontaneously and independently on the subject of comfort. It was not assigned to them other than from God himself.
Our morning speaker, missionary Mark Rubin, spoke from the text that I have just quoted. In this text he observed that true lasting comfort is found in the understanding of three great realities.
1) Comfort is found in the reality of the glory of God,
2) comfort is found in the trustworthiness and authority of the Scriptures and
3) comfort is found in the shepherding care of Jesus Christ.
Our evening speaker, Jim Tillotson, expanded on the shepherding care of the Lord. He use the book of Ruth to examine and expose God’s thoughtful and generous care of His people. Two verses of Scripture stand out in the context of these messages:
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
God’s present care for His own and the precious promise of an eternal future with Him are indeed the greatest comfort to be found.
