But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God my times are in thy hand:
This is section of Scripture copied from Psalm 31. It was written by the Psalmist David. When I read texts such as this I wonder at the insight and maturity of such a young man who at an early age came into such a relationship with God that led to such devotion, courage and confidence.
An excellent example of this is Joseph the son of Jacob, who was sold into slavery at the age of 17 and how he faithfully walked with God through 13 years of trials such as most of us will never know. And as you follow this time of Joseph’s life you will find that he seems to maintain a good attitude through it all. Joseph was not inactive as he walked through these days. He did his work carefully and with diligence, as he fully trusted God with his future.
It seems there is a lesson here for us as believers today. We believe that the future of our nation is in His hands, however, that in no way, removes from us our responsibility to live and act as His people in a foreign land. Although we are “strangers” in this land, we are no less in this land. We are not only the “light of the world”, we are the “salt of the earth”. We are here to express a preserving influence upon our land.
David had giants to face and Joseph had responsibilities to fulfill. Let us be eager to understand and accept our God-given tasks and fulfill the place he has given us.
Here in the words of the prophet Ezekiel we find a great challenge:
Ezekiel 22:30
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
