We live in a world that has much appreciation for the ability to “make it happen”. In a way I respect that strength, however that strength has a way of becoming a severe disability. The real issue in the life of a believer is to believe in and trust in God. And in the process of that belief and trust we will often be greatly stressed and tried.
Two clear illustrations of that are found in the lives of Abraham and Sarai and in the life of Gideon. God called these folks to some difficult issues and put them in troubling and even terrifying straits. It was in this process that God developed character in their lives. Note this verse from Proverbs in this context:
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
As the people of God we are called to do life His way and not our own and there is a great difference. The big issue involved in living that way is the expression of faith and waiting upon God.
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Christianity is not so much a matter of “can do” as it is a matter trust. It isn’t very good for our egos but it is great for building a relationship with God.
