The Blessing of Rebuke

Yesterday in our study of Ecclesiastes we contemplated together the place and value of rebuke. Here is the counsel of Solomon:

Ecclesiastes 7:5

It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

We understand that rebuke is never pleasant to receive but the value of it is great. I have come to the conclusion that some folks just cannot be instructed or corrected. They have isolated themselves within the conceits of their own mind and heart and are fully doomed to their own foolishness. Here is Solomon’s observation of this:

Proverbs 17:10

A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

God has ordained that the path to a good name is found in the way of rebuke. This will require a humble attitude and great respect for those whom God has ordained to walk the path of life with you. The question for you is, are you willing to accept correction and rebuke from the people that God has brought into your life? To reject them is to reject some of God’s most precious gifts.
