I would think that most folks have some mixed feelings about this recession that we are beginning to experience. Few indeed are the number that don’t appreciate the drop in gasoline prices. It certainly is a welcome sight when the tank is filled and the cost is only about a third of what it was only a couple of months ago. However those who have experienced a lay-off will have a different perspective. This foolish casting of money (really debt for our children) at failing institutions is a great disappointment. It is only a continuation and acceleration of the bad policies that got us here in the first place. For us as Christians it certainly causes us to look more eagerly to the return of Christ, the One who alone will be the solution to this world’s dilemmas. There really is a Messiah that will come:
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
We as believers have much to celebrate in the Christmas season. I encourage you to look past these troubling events of today to the wonderful future that Christ has provided for us.
