Spoilers in a Broken World

Published on 12/02/08

Solomon informs us in the book of Ecclesiastes that our world is a broken world. It is filled with snares, traps and great lapses in justice and judgment. The world will be so until Christ returns. Solomon therefore warns us regarding the snares and traps that confront and threaten us.

Four of these dangers are brought to our attention in the early verses of Ecclesiastes chapter four. One is the snare of the injustice of oppression. The issue here is that some who have been given great opportunity in this life will often use it to their own advantage and by that injure others. Such were the actions of those who were in leadership positions in Enron. Justice will be had upon those, but not likely until the King comes. The same is true with the shenanigans that brought about the downfall of Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac. Great numbers of folks have been hurt by these events, but justice will be had.

The next danger is envy. Envy is our way of injuring ourselves. It is so easy to envy those who have greater and wider opportunities that we. We have the ability to spoil what we have by envying what others have by comparison. There is so much to be warned of as we face life in these days.
