The Believer’s Security

Published on 08/03/09

This past weekend we had a guest preacher with us; Bill Jenkin from Continental Baptist Mission. He spoke with us from the text of Jude. In the morning the message was about the believer’s security in Christ. That security rests in the fact that our salvation begins and ends with God. It is not a matter of our good works or even our good intentions. Our salvation is purchased in total by the death of Christ on the cross and is validated by His resurrection.

Secondly we see that we are kept by the power of God and not by any measure of our good works. We also examined how it is that we are saved not because we sought out God but rather because he sought out us. A classic verse about this is found in the Gospel of John:

John 15:16 (KJV)

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

In the evening brother Jenkin spoke with us regarding our obligation to “contend for the faith”. It is important to note that one primary duty of the believer is the stewardship of the Truth. Paul spoke of this duty to his son in the faith Timothy:

1 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Being a believer is a great privilege and it comes with great obligation. The pay-off is eternal in heaven. We have a great future in Christ.
