Yesterday we had the Mapes family with us, who are missionaries to Ghana, Africa. In the morning service Dan made the point that man has “a serious problem with unbelief!” Dan used the parable of the sower to expose this issue. He was making the point from the text, “Take heed therefore how ye hear:”
I have found that the way a man listens to and responds to God are directly related to the matter of creation. It is creation that establishes the reality and authority of God. It should not surprise us then that Satan would attack this foundation stone of life. There are two texts of Scripture I would like to bring to bear on this issue:
Psalm 19:1-4 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
God tells us there is more than sufficient information within creation itself to prove its reality. It is absurd to believe that a world of such grandeur and order is the result of chance and of all things a giant explosion: in reality that is just silly. Rejection of creation is a moral issue of active denial as exposed in Romans One.
The second issue I would like to look at is that as a result of creation the world and all that is in it belongs to God:
Psalm 24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
The question then of man’s denial of creation and his purpose of that denial is established in that man refuses to accept his accountability and responsibility to God. I really believe that these are hard and undeniable realities. However, they are hidden away in the hearts of men who wish to continue on in their own self-proclaimed freedom. The consequences of this are huge and terrible.
