The Cause of the Tribulational Judgments

Zechariah 5:4 I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

It is here that Zechariah focuses on the cause of the judgments that are coming upon the earth in the last days. These judgments focus on two main themes, greed and dishonesty. At the risk of sounding like a flaming socialist, I would like to make a couple of observations.

My observation here is the present cost of airline tickets. Remember when it was fun to fly. When we were treated as respected clients and not as luggage? It was back when we had a much larger number of carriers and they felt a need to satisfy the customer. However, since the recent consolidation of carriers things have changed and not for the better. We have had nearly two years of substantial reduction in fuel costs and the introduction of equipment that is substantially more efficient. The seats have become narrower and planes more crowded and fares have nearly doubled. We find ourselves flying through their choice of hub-cities often with lengthy lay-overs.

I am not privy to the balance sheets of these companies, however I suspicion that profits have risen in much the same degree has comfort and convenience of the passenger has diminished. And through the lack of competition they are applying their opportunity with disregard, if not disdain, for the client. We may be coming upon the days when the common man is held hostage to the whim and power of those who hold greater wealth.

This is just one observation, but it is what is prophesied as the character of the last days. This could be a matter of greed for profits and dishonesty.

Having family in the Mid-west I find myself making periodic trips back there and more and more often I find that I am deciding for the front seat of my sedan rather than pay these increasing fares and suffer the treatment of an Angus steer going to market. It offends me that they then attempt to satisfy the client with the meaningless benefits of some silly “golden” membership club. Just pay a little more!

Although it sounds like my attempt is to “fry” the airlines, my point is rather, to urge your thinking to a pendulum that has swung and that it may indicate a symptom of the last days.
