Our period of time has been called the “modern age” and also the “age of science”. It has been a time of unprecedented growth in knowledge of a scientific nature, and Daniel prophesied this. While we have certainly enjoyed the convenience of these times we ought to also make the observation that there has been an incredible loss. That loss is the corresponding insensitivity to God. It is as the Psalmist said, “God is not in all their thoughts”. One of the great changes that will come in the time of the Tribulation is that God will be brought to the attention of everyone. The Tribulation will disclose two lost realities. The first will be that the Earth is the Lord’s:
Psalm 24:1 A Psalm of David. "The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."
The second reality that will be recovered is that God is in charge:
Psalm 2:1-4 "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision."
This should also come to God’s obedient children as a careful reminder that the time is coming when we face not only the King, but also the Judge. I was reminded of this as I studied Acts chapter ten last week and the gospel message from Peter where he declared:
Acts 10:42 "And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead."
The world needs to live in the reality that the coming King is also the coming Judge.
