Have Salt in Yourselves

Published on 04/19/10

If it isn’t salty it isn’t salt. There are a lot of phony things going around these days but there is nothing more phony and more destructive than a corrupt form of Christianity that is barren of saltiness. The injuries introduced by Contemporary Christianity are going to be felt for years.

In the Matthew portion of Scripture that speaks of salt having “…lost its savour…” the literal Greek is “to have become foolish”. God’s children are required to walk in wisdom and to abandon foolishness. “Foolishness” is a term that captures the popular ideas and values of the world. When a professed believer has his or her life characterized by the typical priorities and entertainment of this world they are walking in foolishness.

Need I demonstrate how incredibly far this foolishness has eroded Christianity? So very many professed “Christian” churches today are characterized by a purely worldly philosophy of business and even their so-called worship is bathed in worldly music. Any sighted person could clearly say with the child of an old fairy tale, “the emperor has no clothes”.

The issue is clear that if our lives don’t reflect and respect the holiness of God our profession of faith is suspect.
