Maybe it is just me, but I find that when the Easter season comes up my mind turns more to the crucifixion than it does to the resurrection. Somehow the crucifixion seems more dominant in the event. However, that simply is not true. It is the resurrection that was the greatest factor. Thousands of folks were crucified in those days. It was only one who resurrected.
While we glory in the grace and goodness of the Christ who willingly went to the cross for us, it is His resurrection that marks the victory. Notice in this event the terrible sadness in the lives of those who followed the Christ as they observed His death and burial. This was then followed by their inability to even believe in His resurrection after it had occurred. Thomas after hearing the testimony of the other ten refused to believe. In reality it was just “too good to believe”.
We are just unable to capture the relief and joy that filled the hearts of his followers. They must have been entirely “beside themselves” with joy. I bring this up to take you to Romans 6:
Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
It is our wonderful opportunity and privilege not only to anticipate our own resurrection in the future but also to walk in the power and joy of the resurrection today. Christ by His work on the “Easter Weekend”, rescued us not just from sin’s penalty but also from sin’s power.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
I can be a godly husband and father by the power of His resurrection and that is something to celebrate.
