I have been reading the Bible with a regular discipline now for nearly fifty years. You would think after that much time a fella would have a fairly good grasp on the book. However, at this point I despair of ever having a comprehensive mastery of the Bible. In recent years I have had a greater understanding as I have read, but I am noticing this year as I begin my passage through the gospels, that I have so much to learn about the life of Christ.
I am thinking about the testimony of the Psalmist David as he said that he made the Word the subject of his meditation all day long. What a privilege that young shepherd had to muse about the things of God as he watched his father’s sheep.
I was attempting to think my way through some matters of the life of Christ this morning and really enjoying it until the regular duties of my life interrupted and I had to write this article.
It occurs to me that I need to give more attention to this discipline of reading the Word and enjoying the privilege of seeing history, life and reality from the perspective of God. The Bible truly is a wonderful treasure. I trust that you will take time to enjoy this “Treasure” in the year of 2014.
