The Bible defines true believers as a rare and exceptional group of people.
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
This is what Jesus taught about the gospel and those who would be saved. It kind of makes you wary about things that are popular and acceptable today. If your desire is to be well liked and to fit in with the culture you will not be able to do that and still be a follower of Jesus Christ.
It makes me wonder about these churches that are attempting to “fit in” and to be attractive to this culture. I rather imagine that their motives are somewhat good in that they want to “earn” the ear of the culture but what if in earning that “ear” they loose the distinctiveness of their message. The Scriptures never urge the believer to “fit in” or to be popular, but rather to be faithful to God and His message without regard to the personal cost. We find the necessity to walk a careful balance between that old enemy of compromise and to be faithful completely to our Lord.
