Foundations are something that we typically take for granted. We just don’t think of them very often. That is unless they are inadequate. We have several older homes in this area of town whose foundations are beginning to deteriorate and with them the houses are tipping and crumbling.
The same is true of our lives; if our foundations of life are inadequate when the storms of life come upon us we too will tip and crumble:
Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
The only secure foundation for the life of a man is the gospel. That foundation can endure through the most severe and corrosive experiences of life.
Yesterday in our Morning Service we examined the reality of peace that comes to those who have believed and accepted the gospel. It is as the Scriptures say, a “peace that passes all understanding.” How great it is to lay our head on the pillow each night knowing that all is well with our soul. Have you understood and accepted the gospel?
