We are coming up on another wonderful Montana hunting season. I rather suspect that few Montana natives have an appreciation for our hunting season like those who are not veterans of this state. A few things that stick out to me are the length of the hunting season; in Wisconsin, where I come from, the entire hunting season is only nine days long. Also back in the mid-west the hunting season comes in a time of year when the temperatures can drop well below zero and the conditions are just plain miserable. You really have to be passionate about hunting to go out in the conditions that often exist. But many of us know that big game hunters are often quite passionate about this adventure. I am wondering today if we entertain the same passion in our hunt for God and His ways? We are told to hunt diligently for the things of God:
Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
The sense of the word “first” in this verse is that our pursuit of God ought to be our foremost pursuit. I know how high the priority for big game can be and the costs and efforts many will expend to find that elusive trophy. Is our pursuit of God accompanied by such determination and energy and priority? It really is not an option, it is commanded of us.
