Good News for the Meek

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

There just doesn’t seem to be a lot of good news these days! And on top of that it seems we have become a people that thrive on bad news. It gives us an opportunity to whine and satisfy ourselves with expressions of sympathy.

That aside, the Bible does announce much exciting good news for a very special sector of our culture and that is the “meek”. The Bible definition of the meek is those who have bowed to the truth and authority of God and the Scriptures. For this very exclusive group there is much good news. For the meek, today is a day of stewardship for God and working in His harvest fields. The work at many times is demanding and the conditions difficult to severe.

However, the future for this elite core of God’s servants is beyond wonderful. Christ addressed it in these terms:

John 14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

We usually refer to this promise as, “heaven”, but the Bible is far more descriptive of it and it is a joy to study and anticipate this wonderful future of God’s children. The future is exceedingly bright for the children of God.
