Wisdom?

It certainly is not pleasant to see where our nation is going both politically and culturally. I believe it is obvious for all who are willing to see without a jaundice eye that any really honest and discriminating thought and idea is met with hatred. It is however a condition that ought not to surprise us. Isaiah spoke of these days commenting that at this point of history those who see clearly and with good judgment would be despised and pushed aside:

Isaiah 29:21 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.

Is that not a very clear and pungent way to express the times in which we live? It is a time when truth and goodness is spoken of as evil and when evil is spoken of as good. Notice this observation by the same prophet:

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

This is certainly a challenging day to live and represent our God. We will not be well liked or often welcome in this culture as it is further developing. We need, it seems, the constant reminder that we are both the “salt of the earth” and “the light of world”.
