An Everlasting Covenant

It just seems to me that we as believers fail to understand the weight and blessing of being in a covenant relationship with God. A covenant is the key to having something that is lasting, stable and dependable. Most communities these days have what is termed covenants. They define rules and standards for the community to keep it neat, presentable and attractive. It is done to protect property values and to assure some measure of uniformity within the community. Business partners enter into contracts or covenants to assure stability for their relationships and determined duties.

The most precious earthly covenant we have today is marriage. It is a promise of fidelity and commitment for the stability that every home needs. However, due to the perversity of man we altogether too often see these covenants broken. Therefore in reality we see that a covenant is no better or stronger than the one who is making it.

Salvation is the covenant relationship that God has made with man, bringing man into relationship with Himself through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. In this covenant God has promised to forgive anyone of their sins and to receive them as His child based solely on the work of Christ on the cross. This is His promise and His covenant with mankind. We can be sure of our salvation because of the character of the One who has provided for and established the covenant.

Hebrews 13:20-21 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

If you are looking for something in this life that is lasting, secure and dependable you can find it in Christ.
