Waiting

Published on 11/26/12

We have just gone past another “Black Friday” and have seen in the news the pictures of folks camping out in front of stores like “Best Buy” to get those monster deals! Only once have I participated in a “Black Friday” sale and that was to please a grandson. The checkout line that early morning wove through the store to a distance of about three blocks. Charlotte and I did kind of enjoy that “waiting” line. We had a good time with our grandson and also visiting with the other shoppers. Waiting is not always a time of inactivity.

As a matter of fact, waiting can be a productive time. In this context I would like to make the observation that for the Christian, “waiting” is an “activity” that God has called us to. Notice with me these two sections of Scripture:

Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

We really are not here to experience the good life and find satisfaction in this world. We have something far better in the future with our Savior. We are here to be “Salt”, “Light” and “Ambassadors” while we are in the waiting line. So…gather up some patience and a good attitude and wait pleasantly and productively.
