1 Thessalonians 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
We are seeing the rise of a new theology that is gaining broad acceptance. It is a theology that is very attractive to man. The name of this theology is “Dominionism”. It is a twisted view of the Gospel. It teaches that our mission as believers in Jesus Christ is to take “dominion” over the earth. This theology has brought together some very strange bedfellows. It is very popular among those of charismatic persuasion and these have made official links with Roman Catholicism. It has also formed friendly links with some very stringent anti-Semitic groups. The thing that they all hold in common is the desire to enforce their view of morality and justice upon the world in a governmental fashion.
This is the reason that it holds an attraction even to believers in Christ. What would we want more than a moral and just country? We need to remember that our Savior never gave us a political mission. Our mission begins and ends with the salvation and sanctification of men. The establishment of the future Kingdom of God is God’s business and He has not engaged us in that mission.
The way this theology worms its way into our circles is through the misuse of a very lovely portion of Scripture that was given to Israel:
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
We may well be seeing in the rise of Dominion Theology the rise of the great harlot of the book of Revelation. Deception is the great characteristic of latter days. Let us keep our mission clear. We preach the Gospel and wait for the return of our Lord.
