I think it is important for us as believers in God to acknowledge the truth that belief in God is a faith matter. While the truth of there being a God, established from the testimony of the wonder of the world we live in, is logical, let us acknowledge that it is just that, a logical conclusion. Belief in God requires a step of faith.
Belief in such things as trees, and stones, clouds and stars is a matter of simple observation, it is what we call empirical. Belief in God requires us to respond to observable evidence and to deduce that that evidence leads us to a further conclusion. However, there is also another factor and that is the consciousness of man. This is more difficult to establish because it requires an honest admission of man that he has within his conscious mind a stimulus that promotes an assurance of the existence of a God. One of the ways we establish this reality is based upon empirical evidence that within all known cultures regardless of their sophistication there is found a belief in God.
We who wish to promote belief in God need to acknowledge that such belief is more than a conclusion of logic, it is even more greatly a movement of what I will term soul honesty. I think that if we understand humanity properly, there is a struggle going on for the souls of men. God is in the market for those who will be purely and sincerely honest before Him. And for that reason He has chosen to allow the reality of His person to be shadowed. Notice these words of Isaiah the prophet:
Isaiah 45:15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
Here in the latter years of my life of ministry I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing more powerful and more profound than the conversion of a soul and that that conversion is rooted in the marvelous wrestling of belief.
