The book of Job is a wonderful mixture of theology and poetry. It is a book that none of God’s children should be ignorant of. It is the great revelation of the source and purpose of trials in the life of the believer. I think that it should be acknowledged that this book, and the events it depicts, should not be thought of as unusual, but rather the norm of experience for God’s children.
We have included in the wonderful pages of this book the aching, lonely heart of one under trial and a fearful warning to those who would be counselors and comforters to those under trial. This book takes us beyond the mere events of life to a far greater purpose behind these events. In this book we leave the narrow confinement of time and circumstances of earth to the ageless wars of heaven that seem somehow to revolve around the hearts of men.
It seems to me in some measure to be a slap in the face of arbitrary Calvinism as God takes satisfaction in the pure faith and devotion of those who love and trust Him. It is a book that is worthy of your careful and life-long attention.
