Saul’s Armor

1 Samuel 17:39
And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

Saul was only attempting to be the best of help that he could be to David. He was willing to sacrifice his own armor to David to better equip him for his battle with Goliath. However, when David tried on the armor it became apparent to David that it would be a hindrance rather than an asset in his confrontation with Goliath.

In like manner there are many well-wishers today and those who would encourage God’s servants to enter the battle with the “armor” that they themselves use and are comfortable with. The unfortunate result however, is that many of these servants, feeling uncomfortable in “Saul’s” armor, shrink back from the fray rather than like David, enter it with confidence in the person they are in God.

God has equipped all of His children with the skills and armor that are consistent with them and we need only enter the Christian ministry with the confidence that God will use us, as He deems fit. God has made you unique, enjoy and rest in that reality.
