Rights

Years ago when one of our presidents forced his ideas upon our nation he justified his action with the statement, “elections have consequences”. It appears to me that he must have thought that in winning the election he was given the right to impose his ideas and values upon the nation. And that is a rather defensible proposition. However it is entirely wrong.

That idea is based upon the assumption that the people are sovereign and that the majorities have the right to rule by their own standards and ideas. It is apparent to me that here in America we have been sold this revolting idea. Over the last hundred years or so we have been lured and lulled into believing that God can be separated from temporal and political life with impunity. Under the modern view of separation of church and state, the state has assured itself that it can act with its own “sovereignty”.

These ideas completely avoid the reality of Psalm twenty four where it is clearly stated:

Psalm 24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

Not only does the earth and all of its inhabitants belong to the Lord, the Lord has also declared plainly that He is coming in judgment one day. On that day our leaders will learn that they do not have a “right” to rule, but rather an obligation to rule according to the standards of God. God has not left His throne and, the time of accountability is nearing. I encourage you to join us each Sunday as we discuss the coming return of Jesus Christ.
