One of the semantics that has often been used to describe the matter of being “saved” is that of having a personal relationship with Christ. As I progress in my understanding of what has become a huge word and concept, that being “salvation”, I have come to appreciate the idea of a “personal relationship”. It takes some purposeful thought and consideration to really comprehend this matter of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Allow me to just quote three verses from the Psalms:
Psalm 119:73-75
Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word. I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.
You will notice that the writer finds that his relationship with God has begun with acknowledging that God is the One who has fashioned him in the beginning. He is saying that having his origin in God he wishes now to learn much more about life through Him. He is sincerely desiring relationships with those who acknowledge the same. And He understands that God is presently active in his life through the avenue of productive disciplines. This is a great part of having a personal relationship with God.
