Polling and Leadership

Have your ever considered why all of this polling is done? It really reveals the insipid level of leadership that is existent in these days. Polling is just an attempt to find out what most people want and then say, “me too”. These are men and women in politics who have no real moral compass of their own or any values beyond self-interest that are hanging on to a rope, following the culture wanting to get elected. They are empty “gas-bags”.

In our churches they are the men who are driven by little else than ambition and wanting to build large congregations without much concern for faithfulness to the truth. It becomes apparent as we look at these congregations and find out that they look much more like popular culture than like a distinctive people of the Book. The Bible is clear about the matter that God’s people stand out in the culture as uniquely different and even contrary to the culture. That is the place that Christ has given us in the culture:

Matthew 5:13-16 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Allow me to say one word about the matter of “salt”. “Salt” refers to our antithetic relationship with the culture. We have lost our “saltiness” when we mirror the culture. We are not called just to speak the Truth, we are called to live it.
