Natural Disasters

I think that America’s politician's willingness to make “political hay” out of natural disasters represents and exposes the bankrupt nature of our national leaders. It really is nothing new; it likely came to its height during the crises caused by Katrina. Obviously it is greatly helped along by a willing and equally corrupt press.

In my very small role as a pastor and leader throughout the years I have often had those who were always ready to second guess me and tell me how I could have handled a situation better. This “positive” criticism is often carried along by a combination of the beauty of hindsight and pride.

I find it interesting that Christ commented on such a crisis in the book of Luke.

Luke 13:4-5 (KJV)

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Here would have been a great time to expose cause and consequences, to affix blame or ascribe God’s justice to a natural disaster, but Christ chose to do none of that. Rather, He clearly said that there is a much greater disaster courting us all and it well behooves us to make preparations for that.

Are you ready to face Christ in the great judgment that is yet to come? As you view the horrors of what has happened in Haiti I urge you to consider that there is a far greater crisis in your future.
