As followers of Jesus Christ we may not often think about how very unique our position is in this world. As obedient and faithful followers of Christ we are being driven by motives and forces that are in every way alien to this present world. This past weekend I attempted to explain and illustrate it with the present association we have with the Internet. The Internet is a huge world of facts, information and communication that we are able to move within only as we have the correct tools to interface with it. Some of us “old dogs” still marvel at this “unseen” world that we can touch and communicate with through the avenues of our computers. At home we enjoy a wireless connection and I admit to being amazed at how such unseen things work.
I think that this in some measure illustrates to us a text such as John 3:
John 3:5-8 (KJV)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Through the marvel of conversion we are moved into association with Christ, our eyes are opened to new and marvelous truths and we become the recipients of His grace that strengthens and empowers us to live a new kind of life. Paul says that we are “new creatures”. It is a wonderful, powerful and rich blessing to be a Christian.
