Last evening I was watching the Packer, Cowboy football game. In the third quarter there was a large pile-up on a tackle made during a punt return. There was a rather large conflagration and flags were thrown. The officials had a short meeting on the field and an unsportsman like penalty was called on a Packer player. The commentators, in reviewing the play, went over the tape of the play from many different angles and it was impossible to discern what action on the part of that player was in anyway "unsportsman like".
The reality is that at times in the rigors of a football game things just seem to get out of hand and somebody needs to bear the blame. In defense of the officials, they were much closer to the play and also had the opportunity to hear what was going on. Their call may have been appropriate. However, it is my observation that, regardless of the event and the call, the important thing is to just put it behind you and get on with the game.
Life is so much like that; things happen that seem very unfair and much to our disliking, but yet we need to just put those events behind us and get on with life. This is just one of the skills that Solomon teaches us in the book of Ecclesiastes. I encourage you to join us Sunday mornings for this beneficial study.
