How Sinful is Sin?

Romans 7:13

Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

In this text of Scripture Paul is explaining how incredibly sinful, sin is. (In this context we find that sin can even abuse the Law.) That is that sin is wicked, treacherous, subtle and self-destructive. Imagine that we have within ourselves the potential of absolute self-destruction. I watch this dynamic within myself and have seen it do horrible things in the lives of folks that I have loved and ministered to throughout the years. I have watched folks absolutely destroy their careers, their homes and even alienate their children just by allowing their own sinful nature to dominate their heart and behavior.

Paul warns us of this dangerous circumstance:

Romans 8:6

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

This “carnal” mind is the condition of allowing the sin nature to have control of our “apparatus”. Saul by doing this lost his kingdom, his heritage and his life.

Allow me to give you just a few examples of this disease:

1) It is being impatient when you could be patient.

2) It is being discontent when you could be content.

3) It is being unkind when you could be kind.

4) It is being hateful when you could be loving.

The Bible solution to this is walking in the Spirit rather than walking in the flesh. It really is that simple!
