I would like to bump you with a couple of short phrases of Scripture that are quite familiar. The first is from Romans 8: “…all things work together for good…” and the next from Philippians 4: “…be careful for nothing…”. Most generally we apply and understand these portions of Scripture in a very small context. For an example, we would apply them in context of our career or our health or possibly a family matter. And these are certainly appropriate and proper applications. However, we need to understand that these same promises and commands can and must be applied in larger contexts also.
What if we applied these Scriptures to national elections and world politics and events? Could it possibly be that God is in control of such large matters as national events? Those of us who know the Scriptures would respond in the affirmative, but do we live and act like we believe that? Do we look with confidence and even comfort at the events we see daily in the news or do we wring our hands in despair and fuss and moan about the days we live in? Would it not be proper for us to see the hand of God in these matters and rejoice in His omnipotent shaping of our world to bring about the return of His Son and the beloved kingdom we all anticipate?
In the following portion of Scripture God addresses Cyrus, king of Persia, over one hundred years prior to his birth, and tells him of His control over the kingdoms of this world:
Isaiah 45:5-7
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
It would do us well to get in step with God, walk in peace and enjoy the security of knowing God.
