True greatness isn’t measured by achievement. In our world today I believe altogether too much emphasis is place upon achievement. Great achievements are many times noble and appreciated but think with me how many times the great achievers of our world have been such disappointments. So many of our “great” sports stars and movie stars and politicians have been such a disappointment when it comes to being people of honor and good reputation. It has come to the place that it seems that the majority of “greats” in achievements are busts in the real matters of life.
Throughout the Gospels Christ shines a light on many folks that it appears He sets before us as good role models. None of them at all are great in achievement but they are all great in their integrity and person. If you would watch as you read the Gospels you will see that Christ recognizes characteristics such as, faith, brokenness, patience, sacrifice, service, humility and a host of like traits. We need to begin to value these traits as our Savior does. If achievements can be had in the pursuit and priority of these characteristics that is good, but if something is to be sacrificed, it is achievements, never our character and pursuit of Christ likeness.
