There is a lot of hand wringing going on these days and much being written regarding the future of our nation and our world riding on the outcome of the coming election here in America.
We take altogether too much upon ourselves if we begin to anticipate the future. The future is with God and His ways are far beyond our capacity to understand let alone anticipate. Some congressman said the other day, "Ours is the duty, God's is the outcome". I didn't get the name of this man but this quote has haunted me.
It is such a good illustration of what we are presently studying in the book of Ecclesiastes. Solomon urges us to live pleasantly and joyously in the present, fulfilling our duty while we trust the future to God.
Folks, the future is already determined! Christ is guiding the world to its ultimate end and our only duty is to be faithful to Him and truth as we pass through our portion of history.
Hebrews 1:10-12
And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
Let us just work on being happily and confidently faithful in our portion of history while we await His blessed return.
