Foolish Labors

There is little more disheartening than doing your best, working hard and in the end doing it wrong!

Last week I did a brake-job on my wife’s car. It had been some time since I had done a break-job and I was not at all eager to do it to be sure. I worked hard at encouraging myself to be careful and patient and particular. I cut no corners, used the best of replacement parts and took my time. However, when I was done and road tested the car it was obvious that there was something wrong. I had to go back home, take it apart again and find out what was wrong. The problem was that I just found it hard to set the breaks to the time-tested and engineered specifications. The good news is that I had a second chance.

In the matter of life there are no second chances. We either follow God’s specifications today or suffer the certain shipwreck of our lives. I encourage you to take out God’s specification book, the Bible, and read it and do exactly as it says. This is your only hope for life.

Joshua 1:8 (KJV)

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
