Fear God

In the first half of Ecclesiastes chapter five, Solomon deals with the practice of religion. His instructions are quite brief and to the point. He enters in to the subject by addressing the matter of going into the house of God followed by a lengthy description of inappropriate behavior and concludes with the simple statement “fear God”. In the twelfth chapter he gives this simple and concise conclusion:

Ecclesiastes 12:13

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Unfortunately in these days there is such an absence of a true fear of God. We attempt to negotiate with Him, we worship him according our own personal tastes and that we do at our own convenience. The cause is that there is no real knowledge of God. When Ezekiel saw God he fell on his face before Him. When the apostle John saw him in the book of Revelation he too, fell on his face. Today we are encouraged to play Him a rock tune!

Silence is a far better choice. Solomon said be more ready to hear than to speak. Oh that there would be a revival of the “fear of God”.
