Enjoying a “Long-term” Vision

We are experiencing some very gloomy weather here in Northwest Montana. While we love to enjoy the sunny and warm days that spring can provide, we do know that the benefits of some gloomy and rainy days are much needed and in the long-term appreciated. If we can just keep our eyes on the reality of the need for this rain and appreciate it we can endure much happier and look forward to the lovely sunshine that will again appear.

Recently my oldest grandchild was found to have some significant dental issues that needed to be addressed. Some of his baby teeth were not giving way to the adult teeth that needed to come in and so there was a growing “conflict” arising. It has required the pulling of teeth and the application of braces. While it is uncomfortable now the “long-term” benefits are very important.

This principle needs to be daily applied to the realities of our lives as the followers and servants of Christ. We need to have an eye to the future and to understand the necessity of present trials and obstacles of life are very important in broad scope of what Christ has called us to. Notice with me these two very important Scripture texts:

Hebrews 12:11
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

I am seeing my lawn and other plantings thrive as a result of these much-needed rains and so our souls prosper with the “chastening” hand of God.
