Yesterday we began to introduce some Christmas carols into our service as we look forward to the celebration of Christmas. One of the lovely things about our familiar old carols is how well they tell the Christmas story. It reminds me of the song, “Tell Me the Old, Old Story”. If you are careful to sing your way, thoughtfully, through these carols it will place your mind on the wonder of God’s grace and His provision for our salvation. They remind us of the great price that the real “first-family” paid to be the “parents” of our Lord. There is a repeated phrase that comes up in the Biblical account of these times that reads this way;
Luke 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
What a wonder it must have been for Mary as she watched God’s hand of providence in her life. Here is something for you to think about this Christmas season. It was Mary who through her simple faith and obedience brought the Christ from heaven into this world.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
And so also we today, by our simple faith and obedience, bring Christ into the experience of those around us as we “live Christ”.
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
What a privilege it is to be a Christian.
