Broken

The four-wheel drive on my truck broke last week. At the same time we had the largest snowfall in about ten years. In such conditions a pick-up truck is just absolutely helpless. I got stuck twice just in the driveway. The good news is that a truck can be fixed. And it is fixed and now again I am free to go wherever I need to.

The bad news is that life is also broken, that is that sin has entered into our race and our world through the fall of Adam and that won’t be fixed until Jesus returns. That being the case we must learn how to live in a broken world.

That is what the book of Ecclesiastes is all about. Last week in our study we found that as a result of this broken condition we will have to learn to deal with oppression in the world, envy in our own hearts, the threats and reality of risk in all areas of life and likely the most hurtful thing, isolation and loneliness.

Ecclesiastes is really a practical book. I urge you to acquaint yourself with this treasure.
