The Word of God

Published on 10/15/12

Yesterday in both of our regular services we explored the matter of the “Word of God”. It seems to me to be something that we give altogether too little thought to. Let me just share a few thoughts with you. First, God has clearly expressed Himself to us in a clear and understandable way. We are not ignorant of God’s will for man and this world, nor are we ignorant of the standards to which we will be held when the day of judgment comes. These items are settled and established. They are not up for negotiation. One of the verses from our study yesterday was this:

Psalm 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Things such as the course of this world and procedures of God and His standards of judgment were established from eternity. Attach that with this verse of Scripture:

Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

The other thing that I would like to think about today is the great comfort of this. We are not left to be uncertain about anything concerning our eternal future and well being. God has given us clear and easily understandable directions regarding our preparations for eternity. The gospel is the simple message of Christ’s provision for man. It is plainly established in God’s revelation to us that the work of Jesus Christ on the cross is man’s only way to escape the eternal punishment that his sin requires.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

We are not living in an uncertain world. We are all living in the hands of God. And in this matter we have clearly revealed responsibilities. Have you yielded to this “settled” Word of God or you fighting against it to your own eternal loss?
