The Prosperity of the Righteous

Psalm 112:1 (KJV)

Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

Throughout Scripture we find God’s promises of prosperity to the righteous. It should however be seen in the correct context. It is not some magical thing that comes with the wave of a wand in an instant. It is more of a sowing and reaping thing that is accomplished over generations. Notice with me in the next verse of our Psalm that it is the "“seed” of the righteous that experiences the blessing.

Psalm 112:2 (KJV)

His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

There is likely no greater illustration of this than the history of America. After one of the greatest revivals in history, known as the Great Awakening of the 1700’s, America was born out of the womb of godly men of strong Biblical morality. This Biblical morality guided these men in their formation of this country. In the generations to come America would become one of the strongest and wealthiest nations ever known.

It should be observed and acknowledged that we today stand on the shoulders of men like Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, John Adams, George Washington and many, many others just like them. The integrity, sacrifice and bold convictions of these men purchased our freedoms and our prosperity.

It is left to be seen what we will do with these privileges and what kind of a nation we will leave to our children and grandchildren.
