The Incarnation

It seems to me that history has three big days. Creation has to be one of those. Now I know that it was actually six days, but I am speaking here of events and this certainly is one of the big ones. The next is the flood. What an “earth shattering” event that was. But really greater than them all was the incarnation.

The incarnation marks God’s literal, personal visitation upon this planet. Limiting Himself to the stature and conditions, of being a man, He walked here and spoke here and revealed in a special way the nature and being of Himself; that is God.

John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Now I will spend the better part of a day to reach the top of a mountain and there I will sit and wonder at the beauty of the earth and its magnitude. To me it is a reminder of the Scripture, “…the eyes are never filled with seeing…” But I ask myself, do I with wonder, marvel at the reality of God’s visitation on this planet? To me the incarnation is much like that experience on the top of the mountain, it is just too much to take in. And I know that I ought to just admire and think more about the wonder of God’s grace in visiting us. I’d be a better man if I could daily walk in the reality of that truth.
