The Believer’s Place in the World

Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

I have been pondering this Scripture recently.  It seems to come to this: we who attend Bible preaching churches and we who daily expose ourselves to the Scriptures find ourselves daily in His presence.  Those who do not attend Bible preaching churches and those who do not read the Scriptures likely do so to avoid His presence.  More than neglect it is likely a purposeful act.

Where would it be then that such folks would find themselves in the presence of God?  Would it not be when they find themselves in the presence of His people?  I am thinking that we His people need to understand more fully our place and purpose in this world.  God certainly is not limited in His way of making Himself known, but it does appear that He has chosen in this time to make Himself known through the means of His people.  It is we, His people, that are “…an habitation of God…” When we are around, the folks around us find themselves in His neighborhood.

Therefore we are the presence and voice of God in this world.  That is rather heady stuff.  It is also a rather grave responsibility.  It is likely the cause that Paul wrote these words:

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

It would seem to me that we ought to have great respect and honor for our “calling” and give every effort to be faithful to that.
