The Argument of the Resurrection

Published on 04/09/12

The event of the resurrection of Jesus Christ argues for a particular lifestyle on the part of those who follow Him. It is part of what the old “Puritans” called the “experimental” side of our faith. This matter of being saved and being a follower of Jesus Christ argues for a Bible defined lifestyle. Let me begin by siting a couple of Bible references:

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

True followers of Jesus Christ are required by Him to live in a new and what the Bible calls a righteous way. James says clearly that a true profession of faith is characterized by an altogether different way of living. There is a change in habits, values and priorities. Jesus remarked that there would be a great alteration in our friendships and allegiances. Here is what the apostle Peter said about believers as he quoted the Old Testament:

1 Peter 1:14-16 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

One great and proper way to celebrate the resurrection is by holy living.
