Deuteronomy 4:1
Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
If we are to possess and enjoy the life that God has for us we are going to have to acquire a good knowledge of His statutes and His judgments. This is the meaning of wisdom:
Deuteronomy 4:6
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
In our times there is a deplorable lack of “keeping”. We have done a commendable job of teaching God’s statutes and judgments but there is such failure in the matter of living by them. Worldliness has greatly captured the hearts of so many who call themselves Christians these days. Few indeed are truly satisfied with Christ and His promises. Unless they can achieve their worldly goals and acquire the possessions they desire they are unhappy and disgruntled. They envy and lust after things of this world and show no real ability to live above the sultry passions of today.
May God help us to rise above this world and live in the glorious liberty of the sons of God.
