Very early in Luke’s gospel we meet four very significant people in the plan of God. You know them as Zacharias and Elizabeth and Mary and Joseph. I think you will have to acknowledge with me that these four folks are huge in this crisis time of God’s plan.
What I find most interesting is how they were used and how they became involved. In terms of today these folks were not “pro-active”. We have no indication that they were in any way attempting to push forward God’s plan. What they were doing was just pursuing life as faithful followers of God. Notice this observation by Luke:
Luke 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Their qualification was a patient godly life. They weren’t “shakers and movers”. They weren’t ambitious and goal-driven. They were clean-cut, unassuming, patient and contented people who were living in peace with God’s laws and standards. And these four lovely people became the center of the most significant thing that God has done in time. It seems to say something to us about being contented and living in accord with God in peace and faith.
God give us more of these peaceful, contented, faithful folks.
