Recently I read a biography of Howard Hughes. As a young man he set himself upon three particular goals; if I remember correctly he wrote them down on the back of a receipt. These three objectives were:
1. to be the world’s best golfer
2. to be the world’s best aviator
3. to be the world’s best movie producer
He greatly excelled in all three of these areas while becoming a dismal failure in what I suppose we would call the issue of life. He died a friendless miserable man.
The apostle Paul speaks of a far more noble and satisfying goal and it may be summarized as achieving a mature status as a Christian. Here it is as stated in the book of Philippians:
Philippians 3:8-9 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
As you consider the objectives that you have for life it would be well for you to consider how powerful such goals are and consider what truly ought to be your highest objective.
