Living Well in a Broken World

Published on 09/02/08

Years ago when our children were very young Charlotte and I had a second car. It was a Buick Opal in a very poor condition of repair. I had gone away to work at a youth camp for the week and had left Charlotte with the suggestion that she ought not to use the Opal as it had a few "quirks" that could be dangerous. Well...she came upon a situation that she felt demanded the use of that car! It was not a pleasant result.

Things that are broken can be used only to the degree that that brokenness is understood and respected. Otherwise those items can become dangerous.

In respect to this it is important to understand that our world and our lives are broken. We don't live in a world that is yet in its pristine and perfect condition. Our lives likewise have been severely altered by the choice of Adam and the resultant fallen condition of our nature. These are things that must be taken into account if we are to live well in these times. Things that come naturally and seem logical may indeed be very harmful and destructive.

Solomon address these matters in the book of Ecclesiastes and we will begin a study of this book this coming Sunday.
