Yesterday I had the privilege to watch Hunter Mahan win the WGC tournament in Arizona. It served as a good example of someone who was able to keep his focus and not be upset and sidetracked by a couple of bad shots.
I think it serves as an example for servants of Christ to keep their focus on being a servant and not to be sidetracked or discouraged by less than satisfactory events that we seem to face quite regularly. Regarding these “events” it needs to be understood that we are destined to experience them. Notice the following Scripture:
2 Corinthians 4:10-11 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
We would by far prefer to give witness to the reality of Christ by personal successes, however that is not our Savior’s choice. This text in 2 Corinthians 4 clearly states that it is our conduct in difficulty that is the real testimony of His glory and greatness. Knowing that, let’s work at keeping our focus on the real game plan and being faithful.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
