Evangelism

We are enjoying our annual mission conference this week. Our theme for the week is "The Value of One”. Already we have been wonderfully challenged about the work of evangelism that each of us is privileged to do as the followers and representatives of Jesus Christ.

More and more I am amazed at this powerful and mysterious work of evangelism. It is as though it just “happens”. I was reading this morning about the woman at the well in John chapter four and I was encouraged to see how the simple testimony of the woman declaring that Christ “told me everything that I ever did”, was used of the Holy Spirit to cause belief in the hearts of those to whom she testified. She wasn’t laboring over some great duty to evangelize, she was just telling her amazing story. And God used that story to generate belief in the hearts of lost men.

We don’t need to be powerful, creative or persuasive, we just need to be simple, genuine and honest. In the books of Corinthians Paul calls it “simplicity”. Jonah stated it in these simple words, “Salvation is of the Lord”. How wonderful it is!
